Phonics and Reading

Pupils across KS1 are set into small groups enabling a personalised teaching approach meeting the needs of each learner. Teachers and Teaching Assistants deliver broad range of phonic teaching from learning the very first sounds, to preparing the Year 1 children for their National Phonics Check, and then introducing GPS (Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling). Pupils move into KS2 as confident readers and with good phonic knowledge.

We use ‘Twinkl phonics’ scheme and pupils learn to read using the Oxford Reading Tree initially before moving onto a wide range of books. As our results at KS1 and KS2 demonstrate we are determined to foster a love of reading in our pupils.
