Hello from Hedgehog Class! My name is Mr. King and I am the class teacher. I teach a small mixed age class of Year 3 and 4 children, along with my Teaching Assistant Mrs Thomas.
During each morning, we focus on our literacy and numeracy skills. Our english and maths lessons are taught as a whole class, whereas both guided reading and spellings are taught in individual year groups.
During each afternoon, we focus on all other curriculum subjects, making links to our current class topic where appropriate.
At the heart of everything that we learn about are the five key school values of: collaboration, kindness, respect, responsibility and resilience. After spending two years in this class, children are more independent and confident, which ensures they are best placed for the challenge of moving into Owl class (upper key stage 2).

January 2026 - STEM electricity workshop.
We had STEM ambassadors visit us in class, to deliver a STEM workshop all about exploring energy.
The children had lots of fun learning about:
* What energy is
* Different types of energy
* How energy can be transferred and stored
They also enjoyed doing different experiments, including:
* Making their own version of a wind turbine
* Connecting a solar panel into a circuit
* Using a thermoelectric cooler in a circuit
* Using lemons 🍋 to make a battery
* Making a human circuit
January 2026 - We the curious.
We went on a class trip to 'We the curious' museum in Bristol.
We had an amazing time looking around the musuem and we also had a really interesting workshop about light and shadows!
February 2026 - Anglo-saxon workshop
We have been studying the Anglo-saxons in our history topic this term. To help us with our understanding, we had a workshop in school, in which we learnt about:
* who the Anglo-saxons were
* where they came from
* why they came to England
* how they lived their everyday lives
* what their homes were like
* what type of jobs they did
* what their religious beliefs were
March 2026 - Cotswold Wildlife Park
As part of our science, we have been learning about animal classification, so we helped bring this to life with a visit to Cotswold Wildlife Park. The children had a lovely time and also took part in an interesting workshop as part of the day.
April 2026 - Copsegrove Farm visit (Forest School)
We had an amazing Forest School day out at Copsegrove Farm in Bisley.
The children enjoyed a variety of activities, including:
Pond dipping
Animal classification
Making garlic wraps
Teamwork den building
April 2026 - FIRST AID TRAINING workshop
The children had a busy time this morning in class, as they learnt about different aspects of first aid.
The children covered:
CPR
Choking
Recovery position
Applying bandages
May 2026 - Design & Technology: Cushions
As part of of our D&T, children have been learning how to running stitches and cross stitches.
These are the cushions which the produced, which they are really proud of!
May 2026 - Ancient Greece day
To finish our unit of work about Ancient Greece, we had a Greek day in class, which included some tasting of Greek food.
