Not just SATs week!

This week was another exciting one at Eastcombe Primary School and it was full of fun learning opportunities. Yes it was SATs week, but it was so much more than statutory tests…
On Monday Squirrel class were lucky enough to attend Giffords Circus. They had the most memorising afternoon and were keen to share their experience when they returned to school the next day. Tweedy, Keith and all the other performers had the children on the edge of their seats, roaring with laughter and full of nervous excitement! If you have never been to Giffords Circus, our children would thoroughly recommend it.
Monday after school brought Athletics club and Choir. The children sang along to various Disney and show tunes such as The Greatest Showman and The Little Mermaid. Singing makes us smile!
Our picturesque village and its stunning views were the focal point for an art lesson on Tuesday for Owl Class. The children sketched landscape views which they later turned into David Hockney inspired art work. We are exceptionally lucky to learn in such an inspiring place.
On Wednesday Squirrel Class and Hedgehog class enjoyed their second dodgeball session. The younger children are preparing for a dodgeball festival.
Thursday afternoon the whole school joined for a ‘free PE’ session up at the field. This was a treat for working hard all week. There were games of football, rugby, rounders, tag and cricket going on. It is a pleasure watching the whole school playing together, looking after each other and encouraging each other in their games.
Snowy and Brownie the ferrets visited on Friday! Hope brought her pets into school to help Squirrel class with their science however the whole school enjoyed their visit and learnt lots about the animals.
Our allotment is starting to come together. The youngest children spent Friday afternoon digging, planting and tending their seedlings. Wellies, mud and children…a great combination!
Friday was also the grand announcement of the title of the end of year production. Year 6 children had been given visual clues all week and were delighted to discover that they had correctly guessed the play. We will be performing ‘Porridge’ in July. Watch this space for more details.
The school disco finished the week off brilliantly, with Year 6 organising the evening. Music and lights provided by Toby and Ché set the scene for disco dancing, prizes, drinks, snacks and glow sticks. A great time was had by all and Year 6 have raised enough money for their end of year trip. Well done everyone.
If you are tired reading this post, then spare a thought for our busy children! Eastcombe Primary School makes everyday fun and full of opportunity. We have spaces available in different year groups so if you have read this post and would love to join our school please make an appointment to come and have a look around. We look forward to meeting you.
