Last week of term

What a week! The last week of term was the most awesome, tiring and emotional one of the year. We started the week with our new Reception children joining us for a story time. They had a lovely afternoon and are ready to join us in September.
Monday and Tuesday evening was our performance of ‘Porridge’. Every child in the school took part in the show which was packed with acting, singing, dancing and good humour. The talent and enthusiasm was both inspiring and amazing. This is my personal highlight of the year and the very essence of everything Eastcombe Primary School is; family, community, team work, encouraging individuals to shine, being brave, being our very best, and having fun.
Wednesday was Mrs David’s leaving assembly, a very emotional event! Mrs David joined the school in 1997 and has been the lynchpin ever since; she will be greatly missed. We wish her much happiness and good health in her very well earned retirement.
On Thursday the Year 6 children went on their end of year trip. The children took responsibility for their special day with fundraising and planning. This year they chose to play laser tag, go tubing and then have pizza at Stratford Park. The day was finished off with a Limousine picking them up from school!
Ms Bashford took Squirrel class to the allotment on Thursday morning, where they picked fruit and tended their plants. Ms Bashford is moving on to Thrupp Primary School in September and we will miss her creative, inspiring teaching very much. If you would like to help with our school allotment in September then please let us know.
On Friday the main event was the Leaver’s Assembly. This was an emotional event, filled with happy memories and sad goodbyes. We are very proud of our Year 6 and wish them good luck in their chosen Secondary schools. The leavers disco and BBQ was a lovely way to finish the term; despite the rain everyone had a great time.
That’s it! Another year over and the summer holidays are just beginning. In September we look forward to lots of new pupils joining us in different year groups. We also look forward to our new class structure on Thursday afternoons and Fridays and all the exciting opportunities this will bring. We are excited to see the newly decorated classrooms, complete with new carpets. We look forward to everything new and the return of the familiar.
I have shared my personal highlight of the year with you. I also welcome comments about your highlights of the year. Was it a sporting event, a school trip, a topic, a visitor into school, an ESA event, a lesson, a club, a happy memory or something else? Please comment on our Facebook page.
Have a safe and restful summer.
See you in September.
