We have had a fantastic first week back!
The week started with an INSET day. The staff spent the time developing our curriculum and planning great learning opportunities for the children. We also reviewed the structure and content of our Thursdays and Fridays. We are really pleased with how this is going; the children have benefitted in many ways including receiving specialised teaching, using innovative resources and working with different age groups. Our biggest challenge has been the weather impeding our PE sessions on a Friday morning. Mr King is working hard to overcome this and we are negotiating hall or outdoor court time with TK. The problem hasn’t necessarily been the rain but the condition of the waterlogged field. Fingers crossed for some drier weather as we haven’t had these difficulties in past years, it seems we have just been unlucky.
The children had a great start on Tuesday. It was lovely hearing all about their holidays and New Year resolutions. They were introduced to their new topics and details of these can be found on our website. Wednesday morning Owl class had a Stemworks KNEX workshop. This was a hands on, practical session of DT which they thoroughly enjoyed. Another highlight of the week for the children was our PE session on Thursday afternoon. We are teaching Dodgeball this term and the children were all very enthusiastic about this fast and furious game!
The Badgers class have been busy practising the Young Voices songs ready for the concert next week. We will be going to the Genting Arena in Birmingham to perform as part of an 8000 strong choir. This is the most amazing opportunity and experience for our pupils.
Clubs started again this week with Country Dancing, Board Games, Cookery and Colouring available. The Year 6’s in cookery club made both meat and vegetable lasagne this week, the school smelled delicious! This was in preparation for their Fundraising event at Egypt Mill on Wednesday 29th January. This event is open to all parents and will be a fabulous evening meal hosted by our Year 6 children. More details to follow – save the date.
This week we welcomed Isla and her family to our school. I hope they settle quickly and enjoy everything our community has to offer. Prospective parents also continue to visit our school. Don’t forget of you have a child requiring a Reception place for September 2020 then the closing date for applications is this coming Wednesday, the 15th January. If you are looking for places in other year groups we still have some places available in YR, Y1, Y2 and Y4. Visits to the school are encouraged and taster days are possible. Please call the school office on 01452 770227 to arrange an appointment.
