A busy few weeks

The last few weeks have been exceptionally busy at Eastcombe Primary School.
Squirrel class have been thoroughly enjoying their topic ‘Explorers’ and as part of this have created wonderful class displays, writing and Geography work. Each child has also written poetry based on their real and fantasy seaside experiences. These are full of exciting and adventurous vocabulary.
Hedgehogs are loving their polar regions topic. They have created colourful artwork based on polar animals and have been learning about the dramatic climate this part of the world offers.
Owl class are experiencing all things Viking, especially plenty of different Viking recipes. There as been Viking bread and biscuits coming in each day as part of their creative homework tasks. You will have seen the post showing their amazing Viking Longboat and we await the shields being completed and added to this display. The children have also been writing their own Viking Sagas – which are both fun and interesting to read.
Computing across the school is purposeful and relevant currently. The older children are busy creating a promotional video of the school to post on social media platforms. The younger children have designed posters encouraging local dog walkers to pick up their dogs mess as it has been a frustrating problem lately. The skills the children are learning are both valuable and transferable to many different subject areas and for later life.
Mrs Monk has been observing Maths in the other classes, with the support of our Governors. This has been fascinating and valuable. She is really pleased with the quality of maths teaching and how much the children are enthused by the subject. We are especially pleased with our 99 club success!
We have welcomed new children into each class recently and we hope both they and their families settle quickly and are welcomed into the Eastcombe family.
There is only one week to go until half term, I hope the children are looking forward to a well deserved break. A quick reminder that there is a homework share afternoon this Wednesday for the children to show what they have been doing at home. If you have any pictures of you completing your homework then please post on our Facebook Page and we can all share the fun!
That’s all for this week.
