Owl class went on a fabulous trip to Cadbury World to enhance our Mayan topic. We began the day with a journey through time. We learnt about how the Mayans first came across cocoa and used it to create spiced drinks. We then learnt about the Spanish invasion led by Hernan Cortez, who brought the cocoa beans back to Spain. The Spanish kept the beans a closely guarded secret for years. Cocoa finally made it’s way to England where it was still used to flavour drinks for the wealthy people. Cadbury developed the beans into the chocolate bars that we know and love today.

After our tour through time, we had a go at tempering and writing in chocolate!

We went on a journey called ‘Cadabra’ which took us through a cocoa bean land in a car!

We tasted melted chocolate and got to add two of our favourite toppings, choosing from: crunchie pieces, cranberries, biscuit pieces, marshmallows or jelly babies.

After visiting the shop, we ate lunch and played on the play equipment.
In the afternoon we went into the 4D cinema, it was really fun!

In the final hour of the day, we listened to a talk about the Mayans. During this we looked at maps, smelt cocoa beans, listened to Mayan music and learnt some more about the Mayan number system.
What an action packed day!!!
