We certainly offer a broad, balanced and inspiring curriculum at Eastcombe Primary School. As well as the National Curriculum we offer our children some really exciting extra-curricular opportunities. This week started with our youngest children taking part in an Archery session. This has been funded using our Sports Premium money and is provided by Deer Park Archers. We hope that by offering the children different sporting opportunities we can find a sport to suit everyone. On Monday one of our Year 6 pupils took part in a ‘gifted and talented’ netball event. This was a great achievement as we have only played in one tournament as a school and Bryony’s talent was spotted! She had a tiring, yet inspiring day learning new skills. Following the sporting theme Hedgehog class spent the day at Forest Green Rovers on Tuesday. They learnt about the workings of Forest Green Rovers, had a tour of the stadium, met some Youth Team players and learnt about sustainable energy and a vegan diet. Still championing different sporting opportunities Squirrel class had ‘Mr Sensible’ in for a circus skills workshop on Wednesday to enhance their topic. The children learnt to walk a tightrope, juggle, spin plates and balance peacock feathers. They LOVED it! Thursday was the Stroud Primary Schools Mock Trial competition for our Y6’s. Charlie Foster (fictional character) stood accused of theft of an iphone and our job was to defend her in court. We played the part of magistrates, defence solicitors, the defendant, witnesses, Court Usher, Court reporter, Court artist, Youth Offenders team and Charlie’s family. This amazing competition supports our English curriculum, supports the teaching of British Values and introduces the children to our legal system in an innovative and exciting way. I am delighted to announce the defendant was proven ‘Not Guilty!’ The week finished with Red nose day…we raised a brilliant £70 for the charity by wearing non-uniform and holding a cake sale. What will next week bring I wonder? Follow our Facebook page for ongoing details and pictures.
